PSYCHIATRIC AIDE—NEW PROGRAMMING APRIL2012
The Psychiatric Aide program prepares individuals for entry level positions as mental health employees who provide hands-on care to people with varying degrees of mental illnesses and/or developmental disabilities. They perform vital, front-line functions in all healthcare settings. They observe, treat and interact with patients, carry out physician’s orders, and report any physical or behavioral signs that might be important for the professional staff to know. Psychiatric Aides work under a team that may include psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, and therapists. The Psychiatric Aide helps patients with personal grooming and other activities of daily living, and help conduct educational, recreational and therapeutic activities. They may also participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs.
Psychiatric Aides work in a wide variety of environments, including the following:
• General hospital acute psych units
• State developmental centers
• Long-term care facilities
• Home health care
• Armed forces psychiatric facilities
• County jails/State prisons
• Adult residential facilities
• Outpatient mental health clinics
• Psychiatric crisis units
• Child/Youth psychiatric programs
This course is a 300 clock hour daytime program offered in Kenton, OH
